Student of the Week

In each of the classrooms, the teacher have the ability to pick a student of the week. This student is spotlighted for the week by getting and 'All About Me Poster' displayed at the front office.

Friendly Friday

The students have the opportunity to write and anonymous letter to a fellow classmate, teacher, or another student in the school. This encourages positive self talk and creates and empathetic environment for our entire school.

Morning Meeting

Each class has a morning meeting everyday to transition into the class and practice bonding exercise. On Monday's the entire school gathers for a community morning meeting.

Classroom Management: Our Programs

Management and Routine

Throughout the first few weeks of school, the students will be taught both the individual and school wide rules and procedures. Each of the teachers will have individual ways to teach thee rules and procedures to their students. This may include role play so that the students experience, first hand how they can act appropriately and follow the rules and procedures and know what his expected of them. The following are practices our school has found to be effective ways that encourage our students and create a positive environment.

Bibles

Greet Students at the Door

This occurs before the school day begins when the teacher stands at the door and greets each of the students before coming ini the classroom. This helps teacher to create a positive environment improving academic engagement.

Give Behavioral-Specific Praise

This occurs when teachers praise students on good behavior with positive consequences when the follow the rules and procedures correctly. Acknowledging positive behavior and ignoring undesired behaviors is found to be more affective and does not take away from academic time. Praising desired behaviors sets a clear expectation for students.

Set Clear Expectations

As opposed to displaying rules for behaviors, teachers will involve students in creating rules. This allows the students involvement and creates a purpose for them to follow the rules.

Consequences

Our school believes that all children should be held responsible for their actions in efforts to learn how to exhibit positive behaviors. In efforts to eliminate undesired behaviors, our school has developed appropriate consequences.

1. Student will be given a verbal reminder
2. Student will lose five minutes of a preferred activity
3. Student discuss the behavior with a teacher or administrator

Mini Lesson Plan

Keep your hands to yourself

We will explain that the purpose of this rule is to create a safe and positive environment in the classroom. We would teach this rule by explaining to the students scenarios where they would have to demonstrate keeping their hands to themselves. We will teach them to use their words rather than their actions. For example, during the free period, if a student wants to use a toy or object that another student is currently using, we will teach them how to ask politely to play with the toy rather than physically taking the toy. We will also use this as an opportunity to teach the students about personal bubbles and how not to invade others personal space. To practice, we would have a student come up asn demonstrate asking for a toy that another student has.
